The Bombay High Court has dismissed the appeal filed by filmmaker Sunil Darshan Sunny Deol In the decade-long controversy over the lawsuits related to their archived film ‘Good Morning India’.The court on Friday dismissed the producer’s appeal against the verdict of a single judge in 2015, in which he had awarded Rs 15,000 to the filmmaker. According to Live and Law, the 2015 order dismissed the complaint filed by Darshan and actor Sunny Deol, in which each accused the other, in their dispute over a shelved film.

Darshan’s appeal is said to have been rejected after he failed to appear on his behalf in several cases. However, the manufacturer filed an interim motion to reinstate the appeal, which the court granted.According to Hindustan Times, the controversy started in 2008, when Deol agreed to start again in “Good Morning India” and allotted 40 days to shoot the project. However, according to Darshan, the actor initially rejected the script, later accepted the revised version, but later failed to cooperate with the production of the film before releasing the film.The producer said he had taken a loan of Rs 3 crore to finance the project, for which he intended to spend Rs 20 crore. He added that he had ‘lost a lot of money’ due to Deol’s failure to honor the contract.

CJI rejects Sunil Darshan’s claim of Rs 20 crore

The matter was taken up before the Chief Justice of India, who in June 2011, rejected Darshan’s demand for Rs 20 crore and ordered Deol to pay Rs 12 lakh.The two parties contested the decision, with Darshan arguing that even though the judge found Deol in breach of contract, his claim for damages was wrongly denied. On the other hand, Deol challenged the instructions to pay Rs 12 lakh.

Only one judge rejected the request

In April 2015, a single-judge bench dismissed both appeals and upheld the arbitral award. The court also said that the judge had ordered Deol to pay Rs 12 lakh, based on his finding that the actor had breached the contract.Both moved the Bombay High Court, challenging the 2015 order.

‘Don 3’ controversy

This change comes in the wake of the controversy that broke out over Ranveer Singh allegedly kneeling on the set of Farhan Akhtar’s ‘Don 3’. The filmmaker made headlines when he claimed that his production house had already spent around Rs 45 crore on pre-production costs (including hotel/flight bookings and scouting) and sought damages.
