Vaibhav Sooryavanshi may still be waiting for his India debut, but the teenage sensation has already spooked some of the biggest names in world cricket. After former India spinner Ravi Ashwin urged fans to be patient with the child’s progress, Rajasthan Royals head coach and legend of Sri Lanka Kumar Sangakkara shared amazing stories that completely captured the fearless mindset and incredible confidence of the 15-year-old batter.Speaking to Sky Sports Cricket during India-Ireland’s first T20I coverage, Sangakkara recalled how Sooryavanshi could confidently predict match-winning performances before taking the field. He also revealed how fearlessly the youngster took England’s pace Jofra Archer: in the nets during an early training camp of Rajasthan Royals, leaving everyone stunned.Kumar Sangakkara said on Sky Sports Cricket.“This year, we are playing Lucknow Super Giants. We need to chase 220 to win the game and stay in the competition. We went to the field first. Vaibhav came to me, winked and said, ‘Coach, don’t worry. It’s over.’“He went into the dressing room and told Donovan Ferreira and Lhuan-dré Pretorius, ‘Listen, you two. I’m going to hit 13 sixes. Once I do that, you just do the rest.’ He got to 10. When he got to five or six six, Donovan and Pretorius looked at each other and thought, ‘What did he say?’ Then they started counting because they knew it could really be a baby. That is the level of confidence he has,” Sankakkara said.Sangakkara also recalled his first impression of Sooryavanshi during the Rajasthan Royals camp in Guwahati.“I first saw Vaibhav when I went to Guwahati for a two-week camp. There was this little side net where the likes of Jofra Archer and Sandeep Sharma were bowling the new ball, and nobody wanted to bat there. Then Vaibhav walked up and simply said, ‘I’m going to bat.’ Every time the ball hit the middle of his bat, it sounded like a gunshot. He got Archer, he got Sandeep Sharma on board. At one point, I think Archer stopped and laughed because he was bowling so badly, and this 14-year-old was treating him with complete disdain,” he added.

Stellar: IPL 2026

Sooryavanshi announced himself on the biggest stage during IPL 2026, enjoying a record-breaking campaign for Rajasthan Royals. The left-hander finished as the tournament’s highest run-scorer with 776 runs, winning the Orange Cap, MVP, Emerging Player, Super Striker, and Super Sixes awards. His fearless approach, highlighted by a stunning 97 off 29 balls in the Eliminator and a century in Qualifier 2, established him as one of the brightest young talents in world cricket.
