The Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026, scheduled for June 28, was postponed after the Bhiwandi police discovered an alleged leak of the question paper just a day before the exam. Police said the accused had planned to sell the leaked paper for around Rs 1.5 crore.Speaking about the case, Additional Commissioner of Police (Bhiwandi) Ashok Dudhe said the police acted on prior information received through informers.“The accused were coming to Bhiwandi to sell the exam paper. We had received prior information about it through our informers. Before they could sell the paper, we laid a trap and arrested them. After examining the seized papers, it was confirmed that they were meant to be used in the examination scheduled for tomorrow,” Dudhe was quoted as saying by news agency IANS.Deputy Commissioner of Police Pawan Bansod said the police had received secret information that outsiders were bringing the TET question paper to Bhiwandi ahead of the exam.“We laid a trap…after that, we arrested three accused and on checking them we found four different exams. We immediately called the senior officials of the Education department. After verifying the exam papers, we came to know that this exam was to be held tomorrow,” he said.According to Bansod, the investigation is still at an early stage. An FIR has been registered and police are expecting more arrests as the investigation continues. The Education Department and the Thane Police have launched a joint investigation to identify the mastermind behind the leak, find out how the exam security was breached and determine whether insiders were involved.MSCE has assured the candidates that a new exam date will be announced soon.
