Sean Astinbest known for playing Samwise Gamgee in the Peter Jackson‘s acclaimed ‘The Lord of the Rings’ trilogy, has revealed details about his financial situation after starring in the blockbuster film. The actor, who played the supporting role of Sam against Mr. Frodo, made waves online when he said he was forced to sell his house, despite the success of the film.In an interview with The Guardian, Astin reflected on the reality of working on the Oscar-winning trilogy, explaining, “I didn’t plan to have the looks and the opportunities.” Astin shared his wealth at the time, revealing, “And there was a disconnect between the attention I was getting and the amount of money we had. It wasn’t a lot of money! In fact, I had to sell my house because I talked a little bit about the trilogy.“The ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy, which succeeded the ‘Hobbit’ games and ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’, became a worldwide phenomenon, taking in around USD 2.9 billion at the worldwide box office between 2001 and 2003.Explaining how her finances have changed dramatically over the years, she admitted, “I’m doing very well financially now.Unlike most major franchises, Peter Jackson reportedly filmed all three Lord of the Rings movies simultaneously in New Zealand. While the ambitious production process helped keep JRR Tolkien’s legacy alive, it also meant that the actors had no chance to renegotiate their paychecks if the first film did well.Astin’s favorite Elijah Woodwho portrayed Frodo Baggins, previously spoke about the arrangement to Business Insider. He explained: “Because we weren’t making one film and then renegotiating the contract for another film, it wasn’t very profitable to rest your life.”He also said that New Line Cinema took a huge financial gamble by doing all three movies at once. “The good thing about it is that we signed up for something that will be a part of our lives forever,” Wood said.Astin previously revealed that he earned around USD 75,000 for each film, bringing his total compensation for the trilogy to around USD 250,000.
