The popular singer-songwriter was involved in a one-vehicle crash near Strawberry Beds in the early hours. Emergency services responded to the crash on the R109 Lower Road, between Tinkers Hill and Rugged Lane, at 4.30am.

Glen Hansard died in an accident at the age of 56

Irish police, without naming the singer, said the man was treated at the scene but was pronounced dead a short time later, according to the Irish Independent. Hansard released a statement: “It is with broken hearts that we announce the death of Glen Hansard, who died this morning following a road traffic accident in Dublin.Describing the family’s shock to Hansard, the statement continued, “Glen’s family are deeply shocked and saddened by this tragic death and respectfully ask for privacy at this very difficult time. The family are grateful for the support they have received and would like to thank the emergency services who attended,” before adding, “While this matter remains an active Garda matter. [Irish Police] investigation, no further comment can be made at this time. “

Taoiseach Micheal Martin paid tribute to the late singer-songwriter, “I was deeply saddened to hear of the death of Glen Hansard. A talented singer and artist who made a huge contribution to Irish culture over the years. My sincere condolences to his family, friends, and fans.”

Who was Glen Hansard?

Glen Hansard, who was born in Dublin in 1970, left an indelible mark on the music industry with his innate talent.
