Composer Tanishk Bagchi has opened up about what he described as a disappointing pay-per-view for ‘Saiyaara’. The writer took to social media to explain his experience, saying that the amount he got back does not reflect the effort he put into creating the film’s hit song.
The composer says that the song required his full dedication
Reflecting on the production of the title track, Tanishk said that he dedicated himself to every stage of production. He explained that he was very involved in the production, production, recording and sound of the song.He wrote, “I gave this song everything I had. From production to production, working with musicians and singers, recording, listening to vocals, sound, arrangement of everything that was important to me. I took it as my own. Whatever YRF paid me, all that money was spent on production and mixing… what was left was zero, of course. This is what I got from the greatest song. “According to the author, this work required significant time and personal commitment. He added that the financial results do not match the amount of work that went into the process of creating the chart. Tanishk also said that the royalty statement he has has revealed a total of Rs 8 lakh from the song. He said he found the amount disappointing, considering the song’s popularity on streaming and digital platforms. He added, “What hurts me the most is that, according to royalty, I would still be getting Rs 8 lakh for a song that has gone on to generate millions of streams and views across platforms. Honestly, given the amount of work, time and passion I have put into this song, Rs 8 lakh feels like nuts. I believed that a song reaching this level would have gained more. I am not writing this for charity. I’m writing this because I know what I’m putting into this song, and I know the sacrifices I made to live. This has changed the way I see the industry. From now on, I will only work with producers and directors who respect creativity, honesty and the people who build their music. “
YRF claims that the fee was split equally between the three writers
Soon after Tanishk’s statement, Yash Raj Films released a statement explaining its side of the story. The studio explained that Saiyaara’s song was co-produced by Tanishk BagchiFaheem Abdullah, and Arslan Nizami. According to YRF, the royalties were agreed upon by all the three writers before the release of the song. The production house also insisted that all investments were made in accordance with the agreements. The statement reads, “The theme song of ‘Saiyaara’ was a beautiful collaboration between three musicians (Tanishk Bagchi along with Faheem Abdullah and Arslan Nizami). We are very grateful for their creativity in creating a timeless song that has touched the hearts of millions of people. The royalties of the music have been shared and will continue to be shared by YRF who agree equally, like all three compunishes, including all three compunishes.” YRF has paid each contributor what they need, according to the contract, all within the agreed time frames. “Although the writer questioned whether the money they received reflected the success of the song, YRF has stated that each participant was paid according to the contract signed and that royalties will continue to be divided equally between the three writers.Meanwhile, it was two days ago that ‘Saiyaara’ team celebrated one year since its release.
