Slippery hands. Radha Yadav, Nandani, Yastika drop four catches in six overs as India’s farm woes continue in T20 World Cup | Cricket News:
India’s fielding woes continued in the crucial Women’s T20 World Cup clash against Bangladesh on Thursday, with the team taking four catches inside the powerplay.Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana won the toss and elected to bat. India, coming into the match after a loss against South Africa, made two changes, which brought in: Radha Yadav and: Renuka: Thakur for Prema Yadhav and Arundhati Reddy. Bangladesh retained the same XI that defeated Pakistan in their previous match.
With India, South Africa and Bangladesh all tied on four points after three matches, separated only by net run rate, the competition carries a lot of meaning in the race for the semifinals. Australia, meanwhile, sit atop Group 1 with four wins from four matches. The first reprieve came in the third over when Juairiya Ferdous headed a sweep from Shree Charani. The ball bounces towards short fine leg and hangs in the air long enough for Yastika Bhatia to run across short fine leg and launch into a dive. He took a finger out of it but didn’t complete the capture.India lost another chance in the next over. Juairiya pulled a short ball from Renuka Singh straight to deep midwicket, where Radha Yadav was placed. The chance came at a comfortable length and Radha got both hands on it, but the ball was gone. For a fielder of Radha’s reputation, it was a rare miss and came on the back of the two catches he dropped off Marizanne Kapp during India’s loss to South Africa. The misses didn’t stop there. In the fifth over, Sobhana Mostary drives hard at a delivery by Shree Charani and slices the ball towards cover. Nandani Sharma moves quickly to his left and dives, getting both hands on the ball, but fails to complete the catch.A ball later, Nandani is back in action. Juairiya tries a slog sweep and the top edge flies to short third. Nandani then covered the ground and threw himself into a dive, but the ball didn’t stick, giving Bangladesh another lease of life. The sequence left India frustrated as four times were lost in the space of 11 deliveries. Missed opportunities helped Bangladesh recover from the early pressure and end the powerplay at 40/1 after six overs.Falling catches also continue a worrying trend for India. Against South Africa in their previous game, Radha put away two chances offered by Marizanne Kapp, who went on to score an unbeaten 81 and play a major role in the six-wicket victory.
