Schools in Patna closed till June 30

The Patna district administration has extended the suspension of academic activities for students from pre-K to class 8 in all government and private schools till June 30 due to the ongoing heat wave and extremely high temperatures. The new order was issued by the District Magistrate (DM) Kundan Kumar to protect children from health risks caused by bad weather. It will be valid from June 29 to June 30, 2026.According to the order issued on June 28, the district administration said the ongoing heat wave and high temperatures continue to pose a serious threat to the health and safety of school-going children. With this in mind, he decided to expand the restrictions on academic physical activities. The order has been issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. It also follows an earlier order issued on June 21, 2026, under Memo no. 8706/Legal, through which similar restrictions had already been imposed due to the intense heat.According to the latest directive, academic activities for students from pre-K to class 8 will remain suspended in all public and private schools in Patna district till June 30, 2026.The school authorities have been instructed to reschedule their academic activities as per the latest directions from the district administration. Although the usual teaching in the classroom of these classes has been suspended during this period, the educational centers have been asked to ensure compliance with the revised schedule.

Decision taken to ensure the safety of children

District Magistrate Kundan Kumar said the decision was taken after the administration found that the prevailing weather conditions continued to endanger the health and lives of young children. As the heat wave persists across the district, the suspension of academic activities for the younger students was deemed a necessary precaution. The district administration has directed all public and private schools to strictly follow the order during the specified period. The decision comes as several parts of Bihar continue to experience extremely high temperatures, prompting authorities to take precautionary measures to reduce heat-related risks to schoolchildren.
