Artificial intelligence will become part of classroom learning in all government schools in Punjab from next month, with Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains on Thursday announcing the statewide rollout of an AI curriculum that has been developed over the past year, PTI reports.The announcement was made at the ‘Bright Minds Punjab 2026’ program held at Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan, where class 12 students who scored more than 95 percent in the Punjab Board examinations were felicitated. The event was attended by former Delhi Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Education Secretary Sonali Giri, teachers and students.
The AI resume is ready after a year of preparation
Addressing the meeting, Bains said the state government had spent the last year developing the AI curriculum and was now ready to introduce it in all government schools from next month.He said the initiative aims to ensure that students in government schools are exposed to emerging technologies and develop skills that will be increasingly important in higher education and future careers.
The government is seeking students’ views on education reforms
Bains also said the program marked the first time both the Education Minister and the Education Secretary interacted directly with students to understand their views on the exam system, school curriculum and classroom teaching methods.According to the councillor, the feedback received from students will be taken into account when shaping future educational policies, giving students more voice in the reforms that affect the State’s education system.
Award-winning high-achieving students
The event recognized the academic achievements of Class 12 students who secured more than 95 percent marks in the board exams.Congratulating the students, Bains described them as the future of Punjab and the country. He expressed confidence that many of them will continue to serve the nation as civil servants, doctors, lawyers and professionals in various fields.
Punjab claims the top position in education index
Highlighting the educational progress of the state, Bains said that Punjab has secured the top position in the country’s education index. He credited the achievement to the collective effort of teachers, students and the government, stating that sustained reforms have strengthened the state’s school education system.
Manish Sisodia stresses the importance of AI education
Speaking at the event, former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia said that the progress of any nation depends on the quality of its education system and emphasized that ensuring quality education for all children should remain the primary responsibility of the government.He said artificial intelligence is expected to create new employment opportunities while transforming the nature of many existing jobs. In this scenario, he said, students need to be equipped with modern technology skills to be ready for the changing world of work.Sisodia also called for reforms in the evaluation process, urging the authorities to eliminate cheating and promote scientific methods of teaching in schools.
Sonali Giri urges students to contribute to society
Education Secretary Sonali Giri encouraged teachers and students to work together to address pressing social challenges such as drug abuse, unemployment and shortcomings in the education system.He also administered a pledge asking students to uphold constitutional values, protect the environment and preserve the country’s cultural heritage.
