Prince William sees Prince Harry’s betrayal as ‘unforgivable,’ royal expert says ahead of UK visit |
Prince Harry’s much-anticipated reunion with King Charles III may not help mend his strained relationship with Prince William, according to several royal experts who have weighed in on the royal family’s progress. The Duke of Sussex is due to travel to the United Kingdom in July with his wife Meghan Markle and their two children, marking their first family visit to Britain since 2022.However, Page Six reported on Monday that royal commentators are still hopeful that there may be a reconciliation between the two brothers during the visit. Amanda Matta, co-host of the podcast “Off With Aheadlines,” told the publication that the finalization of a possible reconciliation between Harry and William at this time will not take place.
Amanda Matta on the “very difficult” relationship between Prince William and Prince Harry
Matta described William and Harry’s relationship as “the most difficult” of all the families going on in the royal household. He also referred to William’s current position in the monarchy as a critical factor in any attempt at reconciliation.“William also wants to show power and leadership these days, which often leads to discussions with the media that he is against the way the king deals with emotional issues such as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor and now, the return of Harry,” Matta explained to the book.According to Matta’s assessment, the path to reconciliation may require William to take a different path than he has taken in recent years. “For the brothers to bury the hatchet, William would have to act rationally rather than impulsively,” he said. “The opposite of what King Charles did. William has been waiting for years, he feels that Harry’s betrayal is unforgivable.”
Emily Nash’s thoughts on Prince William and Prince Harry’s unexpected reunion
Royal Correspondent Emily Nash also expressed similar interest in the possibility of a family reunion during Harry’s visit. “I wouldn’t expect anything to happen on this trip,” Nash told the site, though he acknowledged the unexpected.Nash also suggested that a reunion between William and Harry would require certain conditions to be met. “If it was part of a large family, it’s possible that they could be in the same place at the same time. But, you know, because of the breakdown in the relationship between William and Harry, I don’t see them rushing to be together because Harry is back in the UK,” she said.As for the role that King Charles could play in helping to reconcile his two sons, Nash indicated that the reigning monarch appears to be focused on his goals. “I think he’s probably just looking forward to spending time with a child he hasn’t seen in a long time, especially meeting his grandchildren. I think that’s probably his biggest goal right now,” Nash said.
Requirements for reconciliation
Matta also said that the secret meeting between William and Harry will be a sign of progress. “If there is to be a secret meeting between William and Harry, this would be a sign that the lines of communication have reopened,” he said. However, Nash cautioned against expecting rapid changes in family situations. “These things have to be done slowly. When things are as difficult and strange as they were in the family, I did not expect things to change immediately, “said the journalist.
