Malayalam star Mohanlal has declared possession of ivory and ivory to the Kerala Forest Department. The new ruling comes as a legal battle over the illegal supply of ivory continues.
Mohanlal has made a new announcement
According to a BollywoodBubble report, Mohanlal told the department that he currently has 10 tusks and 13 elephant idols. The announcement comes after the Kerala High Court revoked the ownership certificates issued to the horns in 2025. Officials are now expected to continue the verification process.
What is a crime?
The case began in 2011 when tax officials seized Mohanlal’s house in Thevara area of Kochi. During the search, officials said they found ivory and several artifacts displayed in the house. The items were seized under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, which prohibits the possession of ivory without a valid government permit. After the seizure, a legal case was registered.Later, Mohanlal said that the horns came from a captured elephant that died a natural death. He said he kept them as souvenirs and “didn’t know it was illegal to keep them.”
The Supreme Court has quashed the previous certificates
The story changed again in 2025 when the Kerala High Court ruled that the ownership certificates issued to Mohanlal were invalid. These certificates were issued after the government allowed him to declare the mine in 2015, and the ownership documents were issued in 2016.The court has decided the appeals of retired forest officials and gamekeepers. However, the Supreme Court has not decided to prosecute the actor. In his latest announcement in 2026, Mohanlal told the Forest Department that he has 10 tusks, which is six more than predicted. He also announced 13 ivory idols. The idols are said to include idols of Lord Krishna, Lord Rama, and Tirupati Balaji, weighing about 46 kilograms.
