The Medical Counseling Committee is expected to release the NEET UG 2026 counseling on August 7, while its official website states that the detailed schedule will be updated soon. Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda has directed the authorities to ensure a transparent and merit-based admission process while candidates wait for registration, selection and seat allotment.

Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) counseling process for National Eligibility Undergraduate (UG) Entrance Test (NEET) 2026 for All India Quota (AIQ) seats will be completed on 7th August 2026. The official schedule is expected to be announced soon. With thousands of medical candidates waiting for the announcement of counselling, Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda has directed the relevant authorities to ensure that the admission procedure is conducted in an open, merit-based and candidate-friendly manner. The official website of MCC is now showing the notice “Updating Soon”, which indicates that the counseling schedule will be uploaded on the site soon. Once the registration process is started, candidates can apply for online counseling process to get admission in undergraduate medical and dental courses.

NEET UG 2026 Counselling program probably this week

As per the latest developments, the MCC is expected to release the detailed counseling schedule by July 31 or in the first week of August. The counseling process is likely to begin on August 7, allowing candidates to register, fill in their preferred college and course options and lock in their options.The first round seat allotment result is expected to be declared in mid-August. Candidates for the allotted seats will have to report to their respective institutions and complete the admission procedures before 31st August 2026.The counseling will cover 15 per cent of the Indian quota seats along with other categories under the jurisdiction of the MCC, while the remaining 85 per cent state quota seats will be filled through independent counseling conducted by the respective state authorities.

The Minister of Health reviews the preparation of the advice

Ahead of the counseling process, Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda chaired a high-level review meeting on July 29 to assess the readiness of the admission process.During the meeting, the minister reviewed the proposed counseling schedule, digital infrastructure, cyber security arrangements, grievance redressal mechanisms, candidate support systems and coordination with participating medical institutions.He instructed the officials to ensure that every stage of the counseling process remains fair, transparent, merit-based and hassle-free, with special emphasis on providing a smooth experience to the candidates.

Documents that candidates must have ready

Candidates participating in the NEET UG 2026 counseling process should keep the following documents ready for verification:

  • NEET UG 2026 Admit Card
  • NEET UG 2026 Mark Sheet/Rank Letter
  • Class 10 certificate and mark sheet
  • Class 12 certificate and mark sheet
  • Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Passport or Driving License
  • Passport size photos (probably eight)
  • Provisional award letter
  • Caste certificate, if applicable
  • PwBD certificate, if applicable

How NEET UG Counseling Process Works

MCC offers counseling for 15% of all India quota seats in all medical and dental colleges in India. Eligible students are expected to register online and enter their university and course preferences within the specified time limit.Allotment of seat will be done on the basis of NEET UG merit, preferences and seat availability. Students who are satisfied with the allotted seat must report to the institution for document verification and fee deposit.Those looking for a better option can opt for the ‘Float’ facility, which allows them to retain their current seat while remaining eligible for upgradation in subsequent rounds of counselling.

As the counseling schedule will be released shortly, applicants should monitor the updates on the MCC website. This upcoming notice would include the entire schedule of enrollment, election, allotment of seats, etc., thereby marking the beginning of the admission procedure for thousands of prospective medical students across the country.
