NEW DELHI: The Center on Tuesday reiterated in Parliament that it is ready to hold a discussion on the NEET paper leak case and all related issues, with the Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stating that the government remains willing to debate the matter in accordance with parliamentary rules.Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, as quoted by ANI, during the monsoon session, Rijiju said the government has consistently expressed its willingness to debate the issue since the beginning of the session. His remarks came amid continued disruptions in the Upper House over the opposition’s demand for the resignation of the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.The government reiterates the provision for the debateAddressing the House, Rijiju said, “The government said in Parliament today that we are ready to discuss the NEET paper leak case and all matters related to it. The government is always ready to discuss issues related to the country and the youth.”He added: “A system has been established for discussions within Parliament; the discussion must be meaningful and must be conducted within the rules.”The minister also said that the government will present the details related to the issue in the Parliament. “The government will also provide details of all the incidents that took place after the NEET paper was leaked in the House and inform the country,” he said.Rijiju criticizes the opposition for the debateRijiju said the government had communicated its willingness to discuss the issue with Congress leaders and leaders of other political parties.“I would like to present the government’s side in the House. From the first day of the monsoon session, the government has said that we are ready to have a discussion on all important issues. We are ready for a discussion on the leak of NEET exam papers from the beginning. We are still ready,” he said.He further stated, “We have told Congress leaders and leaders of other parties that the government is ready for a discussion, but how the discussion should be approached should be decided after meeting everyone under the chairmanship of the presidency.”Referring to the opposition’s stand, Rijiju said, “If you are looking for excuses not to have a discussion, it is not right.”He also said, “Our government is ready to have a discussion on NEET exam and related issues for the future of youth. It is our responsibility to tell the nation about the steps the government has taken.”The opposition maintains the demandThe minister’s remarks came after the Rajya Sabha witnessed disruptions during the monsoon session. Congress President and Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge reiterated that the Opposition would not engage in a discussion on NEET unless Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned. As a result of the protests, the actions of the Chamber have been postponed until 3 in the afternoon.
