CLAT Syllabus 2027, Unchanged Exam Pattern for UG, PG Exams; The consortium publishes an official update

The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) and the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) have confirmed that there will be no change in the syllabus or exam pattern for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2027.The decision was taken during the meeting of the Governing Council of the Consortium held on July 18, 2026.According to the official announcement, the existing syllabus and exam sections will continue for both Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) CLAT 2027 exams.However, the CLAT 2027 Coordinator and Paper Writers will take into account the recommendations of the CLAT 2026 Expert Committee Report related to the quality and format of questions wherever possible.The Consortium has also decided to publish the CLAT 2026 Expert Committee Report on its official website. Students, experts and members of the public can submit their suggestions through the online feedback form till August 31, 2026. The feedback received will be taken into account while planning future changes to the exam.

CLAT UG 2027 exam pattern

As there is no change, CLAT UG 2027 exam will continue in the existing format.The exam will be a two-hour computer-based test consisting of 120 multiple choice questions (MCQs). Each correct answer will have one point, while for each incorrect answer 0.25 points will be deducted.The question paper will include the following sections:

  • English language
  • News, including General Knowledge
  • Legal reasoning
  • logical reasoning
  • Quantitative techniques

The Governing Council also said that the recommendations made by the expert committee will be reviewed for possible implementation in CLAT 2028.
