Filmmaker and former CBFC advisory board member EV Ganesh Babu has now shared his thoughts on what led to the delay. He said that most of the objections to the CBFC stem from a misunderstanding and emphasized that the licensing process for a long time was mainly the result of cases and laws related to the election, rather than a deliberate attempt to ban the film.

Speaking to Cinema Express, Ganesh Babu said: “The film was first seen by the censor board, which recommended the Revision Committee. Instead of asking to do this immediately, the producers went to court. As soon as the case reached the court, the matter took time as the CBFC officials also had to respond. Nobody in the CBFC wants to delay the film.” He added that he was one of the committees that saw “Jana Nayagan”, but said he was not part of the final committee that gave the film its certificate. Because of this, he said he could not answer whether the final ‘A’ certificate was the right choice.
The election announcement added another problem
Ganesh Babu also explained that the announcement of elections made the film difficult. “Since the film was political, the Model Code of Conduct came into effect. The authorities could not ignore the election laws while confirming such a film. If the producers removed the court case earlier and went to the Reform Committee, there was enough time to complete the process before announcing the election,” he said. According to him, the delay was due to circumstances and legal procedures, and not because of the reluctance of the CBFC to issue a license.
A former member of the CBFC refutes rumors related to the process
Responding to the opinion regarding the certification process, Ganesh Babu said, “Every citizen has the right to go to court. I am not saying that the decision was wrong. But the court process takes time because the judges have to investigate all aspects of the case. If the way of the Reform Committee was chosen earlier, there was a 100 percent possibility that ‘Janganal Nayagan’ will get its certificate.’He also denied rumors of a leak during the CBFC review, saying that the process is very secure and follows strict guidelines, which makes the film very difficult.
