“How is that a blatant lie?” Vedant Shrivastava rejects CBSE again in disagreement over revaluation
The controversy around CBSEThe process after the Class 12 results has taken a new turn, weeks after the Board admitted that it had mistakenly uploaded another student’s Physics answer sheet under Vedant Shrivastava’s roll number. This time, the Board and the student are publicly at loggerheads over whether the nine-point increase in his Physics score came after re-evaluation or after correcting the confusion in the previous answer sheet. The latest dispute started after Vedant shared a video on X saying that he had received the result of his re-evaluation. According to him, he had applied for re-evaluation of 11 questions and his overall score increased by only two – one each in Mathematics and Computer Science.“I got my re-evaluation results. I had applied for 11 questions and I got only two marks increased in my re-evaluation results,” he said.In another post, Vedant wrote, “Hi @cbseindia29, the 9 mark increase in physics you are talking about was not increased by the re-evaluation process, it is my actual marks which you did not give me earlier because you exchanged my answer sheet, and 2 marks increased by 1 mark each in cs and maths.”CBSE responded by rejecting the claim in an official statement issued on Monday, calling Vedant’s social media post “factually incorrect” and a “blatant lie”. According to the Board, his theory grade changed from 46 to 47 in Mathematics, from 35 to 44 in Physics and from 61 to 62 in Computer Science, bringing the total increase after the reassessment to 11 points.Vedant, however, argued that CBSE was treating two separate developments as one. In response to the Board, he wrote, “How is this a blatant lie, the increase of 9 marks in physics does not happen after the opening of the re-evaluation portal and if the physics answer sheet was not mine, how the marks given in this answer sheet were my marks.”The controversy started in May, when Vedant claimed that the scanned Physics answer sheet made available by CBSE did not belong to him. He said the writing and attempted answers were different from his. His posts went viral, with several students also raising concerns about CBSE’s On-Screen Marking (OSM) system. After reviewing the matter, CBSE admitted that there had been an inadvertent exchange of answer sheets during the post-result process. The Board later sent Vedant his current Physics answer book and informed him that steps would be taken to update his result, wherever applicable. After this correction, his Physics notes were reviewed. After receiving his original answer sheet, Vedant said he noticed what he believed to be more grading errors and requested a reassessment. This is the first year that CBSE is implementing the on-screen marking system. Several students have raised their concerns about the discrepancies in the assessed answer books.
