At 18 years, 11 months and eight days, Yamal scored Spain’s opening goal, becoming Spain’s second youngest World Cup goalscorer behind Gavi, who scored against Costa Rica at the 2022 World Cup aged 18 years and 110 days.The strike also made Yamal one of the youngest goalscorers in the tournament’s history, making him the youngest player since Pelé in 1958 to score the opening goal in a World Cup match.
