Swara Bhasker says her husband, activist Fahad Ahmad, was arrested by the Mumbai police while protesting at Chaityabhoomi in Dadar. According to the actor, several other protesters were arrested and taken to Mahim Police Station. Calling the incident disturbing, Swara described it as a “disgraceful thing.”On Monday evening, they shared a video on social media showing police escorting Fahad away from the protest site. In the clip, he is heard questioning the police, asking them, “Why are you arresting me?” The video was reportedly taken around 4:30 pm.

Posting the video on her social media account, Swara wrote, “Mumbai police arrested @fahadizirarahmad and other protestors at #chaityabhoomi in Mumbai on 20 July 2026, 4:30 pm. He is currently detained at Mahim Police Station. This is the Indian democracy. Disgraceful things (sic).”The next morning, he posted another video, which was allegedly sent by Fahad inside a police car after his arrest.Next to the video, the actor wrote, “I received this video at 4:30 pm on July 20, 2026, from @fahadizirarahmad. He asked me to post it. Mumbai police are reportedly attacking peaceful protesters at #Chaityabhoomi in Mumbai. Those who are in solidarity, please come to Chaityabhoomi (peacefully and in large numbers) peacefully.”

According to sources, several people who gathered in Chaityabhoomi to show solidarity with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protests were arrested by the Mumbai police. Reports also indicated that some protesters were injured during the police crackdown, although officials did not confirm the exact number of arrests or injuries.
Delhi and Mumbai witness similar protests
The events in Mumbai coincided with the CJP’s “Sansad Chalo” protests in Delhi, where thousands of protesters gathered and marched to Parliament.Among those present in the national capital were actors Shabana Azmi and Prakash Raj, who joined CJP leader Abijeet Dipke and other activists in supporting the movement.While Mumbai witnessed a police cordon in Chaityabhoomi, Delhi took part in a march to Parliament, making it a day of protests in the two capital cities.
