Elon Musk’s AI company will make Grok’s chatbot more accessible, here’s how
Elon Musk has been extremely critical of the creator of ChatGPT OpenAI to deviate from their mission to develop artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity and take a path of profit. He has argued that artificial intelligence (AI) should be accessible to everyone, and now he has announced that his AI startup xAI will open code Grok chatbot this week
“This week, @xAI will open source Grok,” Musk said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
In simpler words, open source software, such as a chatbot, means that software projects are redistributable, as all the source code is accessible to everyone. One of the benefits of having open source software is that it gives a company the flexibility to have multiple ways to solve a problem rather than waiting for an internal team to provide a solution.
“OpenAI is a lie”
Meanwhile, one user suggested that OpenAI do the same.
“OpenAI should do the same if they are ‘open’ ie,” the user said. Musk replied: “OpenAI is a lie.”
Musk wants AI technology to be open source
Musk had floated the idea of open source AI during a podcast in November last year. In a podcast with Lex Friedman, Musk suggested that he likes the idea of open source AI. “I’m generally pro-open sourcing, like biased towards open sourcing,” he said.
His comments came shortly after hers AI company called xAI released Grok, its chat bot, which reportedly took four months to build. CEO of OpenAI Sam Altman he quickly got down to researching it and shared a post he built on Grok with a single indicator in the GPT Builder.
“GPTs can save a lot of effort,” he said.
Musk obviously didn’t like the bump and responded with a lengthy message that read: “GPT-4 is as fun as a screen door on a submarine.”
