President of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Tamim Iqbal remains optimistic that India will travel to Bangladesh for the scheduled white-ball series in September 2026. The six-match series, comprising three ODIs and three T20Is, is still uncertain due to several factors. However, Tamim said discussions are ongoing with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI:), and the Bangladesh board is trying to ensure that the series takes place.“Unfortunately, I don’t have any news about the India series. I am in discussions with the BCCI and there is an exchange of emails happening between BCB members, and we are trying from all sides,” Tamim was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz. “Bangladesh vs India series, the excitement is at a different level, I’m sure from journalists, from fans, cricketers, everyone,” he said.India last toured Bangladesh in 2022 for a two-match Test series, where they registered a 2-0 clean sweep.The BCB president admitted that while he was working to bring India to Bangladesh, there were some things beyond his control.“Bangladesh is a very safe country, and I am very hopeful that they will come. Whatever steps need to be taken from our side, we are trying,” he added.“I am the president of the BCB, and there is also a line that I can never cross. So from my position, whatever is possible to do within my responsibility, I talk to people, I try to tell them what are the advantages of having series in India and all those things,” said Tamim.“There are some things that I cannot control. The discussions I have had so far are very positive discussions. They also have to make a decision. Soon, maybe, we will know if the series is happening or not. So we will know soon,” he added.The proposed series comes at a time when cricket ties between India and Bangladesh are facing challenges.India decided not to travel to Bangladesh for the T20 World Cup due to security concerns of the previous government led by Muhammad Yunus. The decision has created uncertainty over future bilateral cricket engagements between the two countries.However, recent geopolitical developments have renewed hopes that India’s tour of Bangladesh may go ahead as scheduled.
