Actor singer Vaikom Vijayalakshmi won the Best Female Playback Singer award at the 72nd National Film Awards. He received recognition for his rendition of ‘Angu Vaana Konilu’ from Tovino Thomas starrer ‘ARM’. Dhibu Ninan Thomas composed the music, and Manu Manjith wrote the lyrics. Soon after the announcement, Vijayalakshmi shared her excitement and opened up about her connection with the song.He told Maathrubhumi, “The song that inspired me has given me a National Award. I am very happy.”The singer explained that his words always encourage him to overcome the problems in life and to continue walking with courage. He added, “The words ‘Uyarnnu Vaa… Uyarnnu Vaa… Touch every obstacle and rise… Conquer the world and rise…’ always fill me with strength to move forward. I too have overcome countless obstacles to reach where I am today.”

Vaikom Vijayalakshmi thanks

Following her National Award win Vijayalakshmi offered prayers of gratitude and thanked Vaikathappan, Adi Parashakti, and the presiding deity of her family for blessing her with her achievements. The singer described the recognition as an unforgettable part of his musical journey. He also credited composer Dhibu Ninan Thomas for creating the award-winning song.He said, “I love this song. But for me, nothing can beat ‘Kaatte Kaatte…’, the Celluloid song that gave me my first break in cinema. I also hope to work with maestros Ilaiyaraaja and AR Rahman one day.”

Mammootty’s win makes the moment even more special

Apart from celebrating her win, Vijayalakshmi expressed happiness after Mammootty received the Best Actor award at the National Film Awards for ‘Bramayugam’.He said it was the actions of the two Vaikom artists that made the event memorable and revealed that he tried to contact the former actor after the announcement.Expressing his happiness, he said: “I was happy to know that Mammookka (Mammootty) has also won the National Award for Best Actor. It made me think of the pride of two people from Vaikom who are receiving national honours. I tried to call him, but I couldn’t. I want to share my happiness with him and thank him. “Apart from being a talented musician, he is also known for his rare Gayathri Veena skills. Throughout his career, he has recorded more than 200 songs in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Bengali, and Sanskrit. Winning the National Award also brought celebration to the entire ARM team. Director Jithin Laal shared his post on social media.
