Archana Puran SinghThe first television series, Mr Ya Mrs, was aired on Doordarshan in 1987 and proved to be incredibly prophetic. Directed by Jalal Agha, the show focused on a working woman married to a house husband, played by Jayant Kripalani. A year later, Archana met an actor Parmeet Sethiwhom he married in 1992. In the early years of their marriage, when Parmeet was still trying to establish himself in the industry, Archana became the breadwinner – much like the character she portrayed in the series.She also revealed that one of her real conditions before agreeing to marry Parmeet was finally joining her directorial venture, Badmaash Company, which hit the theaters in 2010, nearly two decades after her marriage. The video played Shahid Kapoor and Anushka Sharma lead.He said in an interview with Screen, “Parmeet wrote Badmaash Company. When Shahid proposed to Anushka, he gave the same line, ‘I will not go into the kitchen and there are no wet towels on the bed.’ This was my line,” reveals Archana. “I still don’t go into the kitchen,” he added, where his signature was still there.Her refusal to cook has often been a recurring theme in the family books she shares with Parmeet and their sons, Aaryamann and Ayushmaan Sethi.Although she is now known as one of the most popular personalities on television, Archana recalled how her first day on the show was a tough one in the role of Mr Ya Mrs in 1987.“My first shot on my first day was stirring a kadhai. Jalal asked me to make it funny. Today, I can find a hundred ways to make it funny, like the back of my hand. At that time, I had no idea,” he admitted.In trying to describe the scene, he relied on exaggeration, thinking that was what comedy wanted. However, director Jalal Agha quickly corrected his strategy.“I made a face because that’s what I thought of as comedy. Jalal said, ‘Cut it! Comedy isn’t about making faces, Archie!’ I felt very sad. She yelled at him. And whatever little I could do, I couldn’t do that anymore,” he says. “That sentence has stayed with me. I learned humor on the job. Every day in preparation, I realized what makes something funny and funny. And I continued to study. But my first day was very bad,” he admits.Although she started her career with acting, Archana says that such opportunities slowly faded away after she became established Kapil SharmaComedy shows, including Comedy Nights with Kapil, The Kapil Sharma Show, and most recently The Great Indian Kapil Show on Netflix India, where he appears alongside Navjot Singh Sidhu. As audiences came to associate him with his infectious laugh and showmanship, he found that movies and TV shows disappeared, despite his memorable performances in successful films like Rohit Shetty’s 2012 thriller Bol Bachchan.However, this year, he has made a new step in his acting career. After entertaining audiences as an unexpected arch-enemy in the Rajkummar Rao and Sanya Malhotra’s black comedy thriller Toaster on Netflix India, Archana is set to make a comeback in a very different avatar. He will next portray a tyrannical and tyrannical bureaucrat in Biswapati Sarkar’s Adarsh drama Baal Vidyalaya, which will premiere on Prime Video India on July 24.
