Ranbir Kapoor has spoken about the emotional burden of taking on the role of Lord Rama in ‘Ramayana’, admitting that his initial reaction was one of fear and uncertainty. Speaking at the San Diego Comic-Con conference along with director Nitesh Tiwari, partner Yash and producer Namit Malhotra, the actor said that initial self-doubt gradually turned into gratitude as he embraced the legendary story.
Ranbir Kapoor is considering accepting the role
Recalling his reaction when he first approached the film, Ranbir admitted that he doubted whether he was fit to portray one of the most revered figures in Indian mythology.He said: “I remember that when this film was first offered to me, there was a lot of fear, a lot of skepticism. But I think that skepticism turned into initial appreciation. I think it was a blessing, a lifetime opportunity, and a moral obligation.”The actor also spoke about the timeless importance of the epic and the enduring influence of Lord Rama across generations.He added, “The Ramayana is embedded in our consciousness. Lord Rama is the conscience of millions of people around the world for many generations, for more than 4000 years. He is a person who shows the triumph of the human spirit in times of trouble. He represents courage, mercy, forgiveness, justice, and just being lucky to represent that.”Ranbir shared that when the shooting of the film started, he realized that the role could be fulfilled only with sincerity and faith. According to him, all the actors and crew are committed to telling the story honestly.He said, “Early on, I realized that it just takes a lot of faith, a lot of faith, a lot of truth telling, and good intentions. Our whole team and our team had one noble goal, and that was to tell the story as truthfully as possible.”
Yash is coming in support of Ranbir Kapoor
Co-star Yash also spoke about Ranbir’s performance, saying that the actor’s humbleness proves why he was cast in the role. He praised Ranbir’s dedication and acknowledged the challenges of portraying Lord Rama.Yash said, “No one in this world can come and say, ‘I have the virtue to play Lord Rama’. The fact that he (Ranbir) said that says it all. He is an amazing actor. It’s not easy to play Lord Rama and the way he worked, big credit to him.”
The trailer launch of ‘Ramayana’ has been stopped
The team is expected to unveil the world premiere trailer of ‘Ramayana’ at the San Diego Comic-Con appearance. However, producer Namit Malhotra announced that the launch has been put on hold following the project’s deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment.Sharing the update on social media, he wrote, “Today is a very special moment for our ‘Ramayana’, my dream of taking Ramayana to the world has now come true with our partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment. Based on the above, we will be launching our trailer globally soon. “He added: “In over 100 years of Indian cinema this will be a proud moment when Ramayana will be screened globally like any major international Hollywood film. This is special because it opens the door for the people of the country to realize the richness of our culture and stories with renewed pride and enthusiasm.”
About ‘Ramayana’
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, ‘Ramayana’ is being planned as a two-part film. The film features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash in a pivotal role. The cast also includes Ravie Dubey, Sunny Deol, Rakul Preet Singh, Lara Dutta, Arun Govil, Vivek Oberoi and Kunal Kapoor. The first episode is expected to hit theaters in November.
