Tata Sierra EV launch tomorrow: Boost Mode, AWD, expected range and more

Tata Motors is all set to launch the much-anticipated Sierra EV in India tomorrow, June 30. The electric SUV will debut in a new avatar and slot between the Curvv EV and Harrier EV in the company’s growing line-up of electric vehicles. Ahead of its debut, Tata has released several teasers revealing key details about the SUV’s design, cabin, technology and performance.

Tata Sierra EV: Everything we know so far

One of the biggest highlights comes from the latest teaser, which shows the driving range of the Sierra EV. The digital instrument cluster shows 424 km of remaining range with the battery charged at 80 percent. While Tata Motors is yet to announce the official figures, the display suggests that the SUV can offer a claimed range of more than 500 km on a full charge. The latest teaser also reveals the cabin in more detail. The Sierra EV has a modern dashboard layout and a two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata EV logo. Another interesting addition is a dedicated Boost Mode, which can be activated with a physical button on the center console. The feature is expected to temporarily unlock maximum power and torque. The SUV also comes with several Terrain Modes. In one of the teaser videos filmed at the Tal Moreeb sand dunes in Abu Dhabi, the driver display shows Sand Mode in action, showing that the Sierra EV has been developed to deal with different road conditions.Tata Motors has already confirmed that the Sierra EV will be offered with an all-wheel-drive option. Higher variants are expected to feature the company’s Quad Wheel Drive dual-motor setup, first introduced on the Harrier EV, while lower trims are likely to use an electric motor driving one axle.

Tata Sierra EV: Cabin and features

The Sierra EV is expected to be loaded with premium features. The lower variants may get a dual-screen dashboard layout, while the top-spec versions are likely to feature a triple-screen setup similar to the recently revealed ICE Sierra. Other expected equipment includes a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, wireless phone charging, powered tailgate, 360-degree camera, connected car technology, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a 12-speaker JBL audio system with Dolby Atmos support.

Tata Sierra EV: Design

On the outside, the Sierra EV retains the distinctive silhouette of its ICE iteration but gains several EV-specific styling elements. It includes a closed-off front fascia with a body-colored panel, connected LED DRLs, vertically stacked LED fog lamps, flush-fitting door handles, aerodynamic alloy wheels and a full-width LED light bar at the rear.

Tata Sierra EV: Powertrain

The Sierra EV will likely be offered with several battery pack options, including 55 kWh and 65 kWh units, while higher variants may also borrow the larger 75 kWh battery pack from the Harrier EV. Fast charging capability is also expected to be part of the package, allowing the battery to be charged in significantly less time using DC fast chargers.Tata Motors is also expected to extend its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program to the Sierra EV, giving customers the option to purchase the vehicle separately from the battery through a subscription-based ownership model, thereby reducing the initial purchase cost. When launched, it will compete with rivals such as the Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric and the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara in India’s fast-growing electric SUV segment.
