Gill back on top after Mitchell’s reign
The ICC confirmed that Gill’s promotion came after Mitchell was absent from the Black Caps’ most recent ODI assignment in the Caribbean.“There are some changes at the top of the latest ODI rankings after the completion of the recent series between the West Indies and New Zealand because the absence of the Black Caps’ right-hander Daryl Mitchell saw Shubman Gill return to become the No.1 ranked batter in 50-over cricket,” said the ICC.The governing body also noted that “Mitchell has held the top billing since January of this year.”Gill’s return to the top underscores his remarkable consistency in the 50-over format, where he has established himself as one of the game’s premier batters. The Indian skipper previously occupied the no. 1 position before being overtaken by Mitchell at the start of the year.
