Rajpal Yadav shared his first Instagram post after Delhi High Court agreed to his sentence on the check cashing charge, and ordered him to serve three months in prison. In the ad, Akshay serves many dishes to a table full of women, who are left with delicious food. Thinking that Akshay is the cook, one of the women asks if she can kiss his hand. The twist comes when Rajpal enters wearing an apron, and Akshay reveals that it was Rajpal who cooked the food using Catch Masala.This comes hours after the Delhi High Court declared Rajpal guilty in the long-running case.
The Delhi High Court upholds the verdict
The case started in 2010, when Rajpal Yadav borrowed Rs 5 crore from M/s Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to fund his startup, Ata Pata Laapata. The film failed at the box office, and the actor was unable to repay the loan. With high interest, the outstanding amount is said to have risen to around Rs 9 crore, leading to a long-running dispute.In 2018, a magistrate court found Rajpal Yadav and his wife, Radha Yadav guilty, and sentenced them to six months in prison. The trial court upheld the decision in 2019, prompting the actor to challenge the decision in the Delhi High Court.In June 2024, the Supreme Court temporarily suspended his sentence and asked him to do “genuine and genuine” to clear the money worth about Rs 9 crore. However, on February 2 this year, the court ordered him to surrender. Rajpal surrendered on February 5 and spent several days in jail before being granted interim bail on February 16 after posting Rs 1.5 crore.On Friday, July 10, the Supreme Court upheld the sentence and reduced his prison term to three months. It also imposed a fine of Rs 1.05 crore each time, totaling Rs 7.35 crore. His wife, Radha Rajpal Yadav, was ordered to pay a fine of over Rs 5 lakh in each case.
Court acquits Rajpal Yadav
According to the court, Rajpal Yadav has repeatedly failed to honor his repayment promises despite being given multiple opportunities.“Spaces were given to respect the settlement [Yadav] and his counsel had made several statements and assurances, and although he had the opportunity to repeat and affirm, he failed to honor his actions,” the court observed, as stated by the Bar and Bench.
