The Bombay High Court has restrained media organizations and platforms from mentioning the ‘Ashirwad’ house in Bandra, which once belonged to a former Bollywood star. Rajesh Khannaas “cursed,” “reproached,” or “wretched.”Justice Arif S Doctor, in an interim order issued on July 24, said such statements are defamatory, and violate the singer’s right to live in peace and dignity.Shashi Shetty, a businessman who bought the building a few years ago, moved the court after encountering numerous articles, articles and videos on the Internet calling the property “despicable,” “cursed” and “ugly.”Senior advocate Birendra Saraf, representing Shetty, told the court that he built a new house after demolishing the original bungalow, but did not change the name. The new building is also called ‘Ashirwad,’ said the lawyer.The petitioner said that the website Indiadotcom had recently published an article titled ’19 Real Haunted Houses in India That Will Give You a Cold Sweat’, in which Ashirwaad Bungalow was also mentioned.The judge said the owner was “entirely justified” in asking for temporary relief.“These facts, in my prima facie opinion, discredit the petitioner to claim that he lives in a haunted and so-called cursed place,” it said.Moreover, it would also interfere with Shetty’s right to “live in peace and dignity”, the HC said.The judge also said that no one appeared in court to testify or defend their publications.“Therefore, in my first opinion, such publication cannot be justified and if it only creates sensationalism, at the cost of the plaintiff and for no reason,” the court said.The interim relief will continue until the next hearing on August 21, 2026.
