Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir started a new phase of his career after joining Notts Outlaws for the remainder of the T20 Blast 2026 season as a domestic player after acquiring British citizenship.Amir recently received a British passport through his wife Narjis Khan’s British citizenship. As a result, he will no longer count as an overseas player in county cricket, giving Nottinghamshire greater flexibility in team selection and opening up more opportunities for Amir in English domestic cricket.Nottinghamshire, currently second in the North Group after six games, will hope Amir is available for Friday’s T20 Blast fixture against Kent as the team look to strengthen their push for the knockout stages.Although Amir has previously represented Derbyshire, Gloucestershire and Essex, this will be his first county stint as a local player. His domestic status means Notts can field their two overseas players – South Africa all-rounder George Linde and Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Ali – alongside him.Speaking after joining the club, Amir said, “I’m very excited to be joining Notts. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this club, and I’m looking forward to it. I have lots and lots of memories at Trent Bridge, and I know T20 is about entertaining people, so I’ll try my best to do well for this team. I’ll help carry that momentum throughout the tournament.“Nottinghamshire also confirmed Amir’s status in an official statement, saying that as a “British passport holder, Amir will not count as an overseas player for the duration of his stay at Trent Bridge, which includes any potential knockout matches Notts may play.”Amir last represented Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup. During his international career, he was part of Pakistan’s title-winning squads in the 2009 T20 World Cup and the 2017 Champions Trophy.In T20 cricket, Amir has taken 425 wickets in 364 matches at an average of 22.63 and an economy rate of 7.36.
