At this time every day, he would come, sit there and smoke the bed. This is how our relationship began. It was a friendship of about 30 years. People will not know anything about it. Many of them shook me because I cried when Salimettan’s body was laid on the funeral and we competed together as best friends. Back then, Salimettan, Pakru and I were often finishing first, second and third. Losing someone I had such a close relationship with was very painful.”
