Jannik Sinner produced a commanding performance to defeat the seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 and book his place in Wimbledon men’s singles final. The world no. 1 avenged his Australian Open semifinal loss to Djokovic and showed that he has fully recovered from the disappointment of his French Open campaign. Sinner will now defend his Wimbledon title against Alexander Zverev in the final this Sunday.Earlier, Alexander Zverev defeated British wildcard Arthur Fery 7-6 (7-0), 6-2, 6-4 to reach his first Wimbledon final, just a month after winning his first Grand Slam title at the French Open.“This Grand Slam is what I’ve always struggled with and suddenly I’m in the Wimbledon final,” Zverev said. “We have one more game to go on Sunday and that’s the focus.”Looking ahead to the title fight, the German remains confident.“It’s not easy no matter who the opponent is,” Zverev said. “But I have to believe in myself and I have to believe that I can win and that’s what I’m going to do.”
Praise for Arthur Ferry
Although Zverev ended Arthur Fery’s dream run, he had plenty of praise for the 23-year-old British player, who reached the semifinals as a wildcard.“I think it’s still the beginning of his career and I really think he’s going to do amazing things in this game,” Zverev said.He also applauded the Wimbledon crowd despite almost everyone cheering for the home favourite.“I know that 99.99% of the stadium wants Arthur to win. But it’s still an amazing atmosphere. It’s a fair crowd too,” said Zverev.“A lot of people in the world can get an example of this crowd. It’s one of the best people to play tennis in front of.”The final will see Sinner and Zverev battle it out for the Wimbledon title in what promises to be a blockbuster showdown.
