For many seniors, a single late document can delay graduation by months. Jamia Millia Islamia has now changed its exam rules to reduce this wait, allowing eligible students to appear directly for the compartment exams instead of waiting for the next regular exam cycle. The decision was approved by the university’s Executive Council through an amendment to Ordinance-15, according to PTI.
What changes for final year students
Under the revised rules, students in the final semester or final year of the annual system who have pending papers from any previous semester or year will be eligible to appear for a compartmental examination after their final semester or annual final examination. The university said that the Office of the Controller of Examinations will announce the compartmental exam schedule separately. This provision only applies to students enrolled in regular courses. Those pursuing programs through distance education will not be covered by the revised rules.
The re-evaluation option has also been revised
The amendment to clause 24.4 of Ordinance-15 states that, in general, compartmental examinations will not be conducted for courses that follow the transfer system. However, an exception has been made for final-year or final-semester students, allowing them to clear outstanding papers through compartmental examinations. The Executive Council has also modified the reassessment provisions. As per Revised Clause 23.1 of Ordinance-15, final year students may choose to appear directly for the compartmental examination instead of applying for revaluation of their answers.Students of other courses will continue to have the option to request re-evaluation within 15 days of the declaration of results, according to the existing procedure, in accordance with the provisions PTI.
