According to recent Sky News reports, the government’s latest ‘Music In Libraries’ initiative will be created alongside an Irish singer’s foundation named after the singer. Teachers, youth groups and industry experts have all come together to provide input on the development of the program, as confirmed by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport.Reportedly, approximately GBP 12.5 million has been allocated for the upcoming project. The main aim of the upcoming project is to ensure that young people from all over England can access advice and training anywhere, free of charge. In addition, about 150 librarians can get funding to build studios, recording spaces, mixing desks, and get all kinds of equipment needed to set up a children’s learning environment. All funding for these programs will come from the Dormant Assets Scheme. The scheme was established by the government to re-use unclaimed funds and assets and donate them to such projects. Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy also said the same and shared, “Talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not. After ten years of senseless destruction that removed culture and identity from many classes and communities, we are putting music back at the heart of education, investing in creative projects and supporting grassroots music across the country. He added that “it’s for everyone, not just the privileged few.”This has been growing since 2024, after the ‘Shape of You’ singer and cultural writer visited a non-profit organization that works as a music and youth group for young people.Last year, Sheeran, along with Harry Styles and Stormzy, wrote an open letter to Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer in March. The musicians called for government action to save music in England. On the other hand, during one of his recent concerts, the singer announced that he will soon start another trip to focus on his family and his life.
