Diljit Dosanjh’s starrer ‘Satluj’ made headlines on Sunday, after it was canceled from ZEE5 in India.Amid the chatter about the film being scrapped from the platform, a video of Diljit speaking candidly to his fans is now going viral on social media. In the video, the actor is said to have been asked by a fan about how he felt about the film possibly being removed from the platform. In Dosanjh’s speech that is going viral online, the actor says in Punjabi, “Hun tension nai, sab ne kar layi download,” before adding, “Main tension free baitha.”During the chat, he predicted, “Today is Saturday. I hear it may be removed on Monday. But don’t worry, you download it.”The social drama, directed by Honey Trehan, is based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, who investigated the illegal cremation of thousands of unidentified bodies in Punjab before his release in 1995.Announcing the decision to cancel the film, ZEE5 released a statement saying, “Given the current situation, Satluj will not be available in India until further notice. We remain committed to exploring every possible avenue through the appropriate process to bring the film to our audience at the earliest opportunity.”Acknowledging the response the film received after its release, the platform thanked viewers for their support, saying, “We are very grateful to every viewer who chose to subscribe, watch and promote this film. Your love and support has meant a lot to us and to everyone who brought this story. At ZEE5, we stand firmly with Satluj and the creative vision behind it. We believe that powerful stories can inspire, endure and leave a lasting impact.Dosanjh had previously spoken about the importance of filming Jaswant Singh Khalra. “Our film, ‘Satluj’, is a story of passion, courage, and humanity, and portraying this character is one of the most important aspects of my career. I am happy that people all over the world can watch this film on Zee5 and connect with a story that is personal and worth watching for everyone,” he said. The actor also explained why he chose to be a part of the project.“The martyrdom of Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra ji and his contribution to humanity are the main reasons why I chose to be a part of this film. As soon as I heard the script, it really touched me, because it is based on the life experiences, pains, and sacrifices of real people. As an artist, the opportunity to be a part of such meaningful stories is rare,” added Dosanjh.Satluj has an ensemble cast including Arjun Rampal, Kanwaljit Singh, Suvinder Vicky and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan along with Dosanjh. The film has had a long and difficult journey for the audience. It was originally scheduled for a world premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), but was later removed from the festival’s lineup without an official explanation from the organizers. The project also reportedly ran into trouble with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which reportedly recommended that 127 people be cut before certification. The alleged delay in obtaining permission led to several delays in the film’s release schedule.
