Talking about the story of ‘Satluj’, Diljit Dosanjh explained that the film is based on the darkest chapter in Punjab since the 1990s, when common people were allegedly disappeared and burnt without their families knowing. He said, “This incident happened in 1995 and they did not allow people to talk about it then. It is happening even today. Hadd ho gayi! (This is too much! ) I am a little sad. We are still standing there, this is 2026.“Diljit also opened up about the years-long struggle to bring the film to the audience, revealing, “Our shooting was delayed for 10-15 years. It took us 1.5 years to start the film. After editing, the film got stuck for four years. I had this film for two years; Honey paaji gave this film six years.”
Why ‘Satluj’ was removed from ZEE5?
The film was titled ‘Punjab 95’, and was submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in 2022 but did not receive a certificate. The filmmakers had earlier said that the CBFC had asked for it to be cut down to 127. The film was also supposed to be screened at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2023, but the screening was postponed after Indian officials objected.On July 3, ‘Satluj’ made a silent debut on ZEE5 without any promotional campaign. Despite receiving positive responses from critics and audiences, the film was pulled from the platform in just two days.In a statement released after the cancellation, the OTT platform said it continues to stand by the film. Without explaining the reason for the decision, the publisher said that “based on the current situation,” the film is not available for screening.
