Do you automatically become a UK solicitor after passing?
This is where many social media posts become misleading.Simply passing SQE1 and SQE2 does not automatically make someone a practicing solicitor.You must also complete qualified work experience (QWE) and meet the character and suitability requirements of the Solicitors Regulation Authority.Only after meeting all these requirements can you qualify as a solicitor in England and Wales.
Do you need an LLM before doing the SQE?

After converting to Indian rupees, these figures often look very attractive compared to statutory entry salaries in India.However, remember that living costs in cities like London are also much higher.
What about Singapore?
This is another dream destination for many Indian lawyers.The reality is slightly different from what some influencers claim.Being qualified in England and Wales can certainly boost your profile in Singapore, especially if you are interested in international arbitration, corporate law or cross-border transactions.However, you do not automatically receive the right to practice law in Singapore just because you have passed the SQE.Singapore has its own admission rules and licensing requirements.Many qualified foreign lawyers work there in international law firms, but their scope of practice depends on local regulations.
Can you practice in Hong Kong?
Again, not automatically.Hong Kong also has its own admissions process.Being qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales can help because of the similarities between the legal systems.However, qualified foreign lawyers must generally meet Hong Kong’s conversion and admission requirements before practicing local law.
Is this route better than an LLM abroad?
For many students, yes.If your sole aim is to be eligible to practice as a solicitor in England and Wales, it may not be necessary to spend ₹30-60 lakh on an LLM abroad.The SQE route can be considerably more profitable.That said, every student’s situation is different.An LLM may still make sense if your goal is academic research, immigration pathways, networking, or specialization in a niche area of law.
Is the SQE worth it for Indian law graduates?
