Delhi University has introduced one-year postgraduate programs for the first time, opening admissions for 46 new courses in the academic session of 2026. The university will also continue admissions to its 74 two-year PG programmes, taking the total enrollment to about 14,600 seats. The online registration process will remain open until July 11.

Delhi University (DU) has introduced one of the biggest changes to its postgraduate admission system, introducing one-year Masters programs for the first time. The new courses will be available from the 2026-27 academic session and are open to students who have completed a four-year degree at Delhi University.The university has already started the online registration process for postgraduate admissions. Eligible candidates can submit their applications till July 11.

46 one year PG courses have been introduced

In a major academic expansion, Delhi University will offer admissions to 46 one-year postgraduate programs this year. These courses have been designed for students who have graduated from DU within the framework of a four-year degree.The introduction of these programs represents a significant shift from the university’s longstanding two-year postgraduate model and creates a new pathway for eligible students to complete a master’s degree in one academic year.

More than 1,100 places added to postgraduate admissions

The newly introduced one-year programs will have more than 1,100 places in different disciplines. Along with them, Delhi University will continue to offer admissions to its 74 two-year postgraduate programmes, which together have around 13,500 places.With the two sets of programs running concurrently, the university will offer admissions to around 14,600 postgraduate places in the 2026 intake cycle, substantially increasing its overall postgraduate intake.

Existing two-year programs remain unchanged

The launch of one-year master’s degrees does not affect existing postgraduate courses. The university will continue to admit students to its two-year programs in accordance with the current admissions process.New one-year courses have been introduced as an additional academic option for eligible graduates, allowing both program structures to work side-by-side.

Registration closes on July 11

The online registration window for postgraduate admissions is currently open and the university has set July 11 as the last date to submit applications.With the introduction of one-year Masters programs and an expanded seat matrix, this year’s postgraduate admission exercise marks a significant change in the academic landscape of Delhi University. It is the first time the university has offered two different postgraduate pathways, reflecting a major restructuring of its higher education framework while increasing opportunities for students seeking admission to master’s programmes.
