Indian boxer Jadumani Singh Mandengbam moved into the men’s 55kg quarterfinals at the Commonwealth Games 2026 after defeating Sumama Rehman of Pakistan by a unanimous 5-0 decision on Sunday. A convincing victory came Kargil Vijay Diwaswhich made the victory even more special for the 22-year-old, who dedicated it to the heroes of India’s Kargil War.After the match, Jadumani said, “I dedicate my victory to the heroes of Kargil. I feel a great victory against Pakistan. I will perform better in the quarterfinals and get Gold for India.”His victory coincided with the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas, when India honors soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the 1999 Kargil War. Jadumani remained in control throughout the bout against Rehman, earning all five of the judges’ votes to seal a comfortable victory.The Manipuri boxer already impressed in the first round with another 5-0 win over Scotland’s Aaron Cullen. His latest victory took him to the last eight, where he will compete on Tuesday for a place in the semifinals. Victory in the quarterfinal would also guarantee him at least one bronze medal, as the two losing semifinalists in Commonwealth Games boxing will receive bronze.Jadumani, who won silver in the 50kg category at last year’s World Boxing Cup Finals before moving up to the 55kg division, looked good with back-to-back unanimous wins. India also enjoyed success in other events on Sunday, including: Mirabai Chanu won his third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold in weightlifting, while Chanambam Rishikanta Singh and Raja Muthupandi claimed silver medals, adding to the country’s strong medal haul in Glasgow.
