Cheran elected president of the South Indian Film Writers' Association; defeating VC Guhanathan by a comfortable margin

Director Cheran he has another feather on his head now that he has been elected as the new president of the South Indian Film Writers’ Association. The filmmaker won the Chennai polls and won the trust of most of the voters. His success marks a new beginning for the writers’ union, which elected a new group of workers to lead the organization for the coming period.

Cheran defeats the VC Guhanathan and strong votes

The election, which was held at the Film Music Hall in Vadapalani, was held from 8 am to 4 pm. According to The Hindu, Cheran, representing the ‘Namma K. Bhagyaraj’ group, defeated VC Guhanathan of the ‘Thiraikkathai Mannan K. Bhagyaraj’ group in the presidential race. Cheran got 279 out of 432 votes cast, and Guhanathan got 155 votes. This victory confirmed Cheran as the new President of the South Indian Film Writers Association with a limit.

The selection sees good participation and sweep of the teams

The election had an enthusiastic participation from the members of the association, who came in large numbers to take advantage of their opportunities. Apart from the position of president, there were elections for 21 positions, including vice president, general secretary, treasurer and secretaries. Cheran’s group did well with Samuthirakani and Snekan was elected vice president. There was a brief dispute over the voting rights of banned members before the vote, but the election process ended peacefully before the evening vote count.

Cheran continues to balance film and directorial roles

The win is expected to see Cheran take a bigger role in addressing the showrunners’ concerns and strengthening the partnership in the coming years. Apart from his directorial career, the National Award-winning filmmaker is still active in Tamil cinema. Cheran is known for his ability to convey an emotional story through films like ‘Autograph,’ ‘Thavamai Thavamirundhu,’ and ‘Pokkisham.’Over the years, Cheran has worked with actors including Sneha, Mallika, Parthiban, Padmapriya, Saranya Ponvannan, and artists/musicians including Bharadwaj, Sabesh Murali, Ilaiyaraaja, among others.
