A player Naseeruddin Shah‘s criticism of the former a Anupam Kher has resurfaced online after Kher’s report on the theft of offerings at the Ayodhya Ram Temple sparked a controversy. A video of Shah’s 2020 interview is also being widely shared, with the former actor calling Kher “straightforward” as he talks about his political views.The age-old video went viral after Kher, in an interview with India Today, dismissed the robbery at the Ram Temple as “a very small issue” and compared it to the massive destruction and looting of temples during the Mughal era. As much as his speech drew attention, social media users revived Shah’s comments about the actor.During the 2020 interview, Shah was asked about members of the film industry who criticized what they saw as discriminatory politics and policies or openly supported the government. In response to the question, he said, “There are few who oppose it.”Talking about Kher, Shah added, “Someone like Anupam Kher talks a lot. I don’t think he needs to be taken seriously. He is an artist. Any number of his contemporaries from NSD and FTII can attest to the fact that he is sycophantic. It is in his blood. He cannot help it.”Kher responded to Shah’s comments at the time by sharing a film message on X, criticizing the former actor for targeting people from the film industry.“Although I have never said anything bad about you but now I will. You have spent your whole life being disappointed, even if you have gained a lot. If you can resist. Dilip Kumar sahab, Amitabh Bachchan, Rajesh Khanna, Shah Rukh Khan and Virat Kohliso I’m sure I’m in good company,” said Kher.He added, “None of them have taken your points seriously, as we all know that because of the things you have been taking all these years, you do not know the difference between right and wrong.” The controversy reignited after Kher was asked by India Today about the theft of donations from the Ayodhya Ram Temple. The actor said that the incident should be seen in the context of the destruction of history and the theft of temples.He said: “The temples were looted when the Mughals destroyed our temples.” That was a great disaster. If we can overcome the pain, then this is a very small matter.Adding to his statement, Kher added, “People are making a big deal about this. They are saying that there has been temple looting… such words are being used. Temples were looted when the Mughals destroyed our temples.
