Angelina Jolie Responds After Brad Pitt Wins Court Ruling in Winery Dispute |
Angelina Jolie preparing for his upcoming trial Brad Pitt on the current sale of Château Miraval following a recent court decision in favor of the actor. The California Supreme Court approved Pitt’s request to compel members of the business that acquired the winery, in a ruling that was held on June 17.According to PEOPLE magazine, the decision represents another development in the long legal dispute between the former couple over the wine estate, which has become one of Hollywood’s biggest property disputes. A lawyer for Jolie responded to the court’s decision by stressing that his client is focused on the upcoming trial and his determination to resolve the matter.
Brad Pitt’s court victory over deposits
Pitt’s legal team argued that executives of the company that bought Château Miraval had direct knowledge of Jolie’s 2021 sale of its value in the winery. The court ruled that these people had to pay even though they were outside the United States. In June 2025, Mr. Pitt tried to remove an executive from the company that bought the products, but court documents said the man refused to provide documents or go to an interview under the pretense of being a Swiss citizen. The newly issued judgment overruled these objections, and determined that the judgments should be held in London by 30 September.
The Court of Appeal has ruled in favor of the billionaire
On June 24, the California Court of Appeals ruled against the businessman who runs the company. An appeals court reversed part of an earlier ruling, finding it “beyond belief” that he could be at risk of $40 million in an action he did not take. A hearing to compel his dismissal is scheduled for July 8.
Angelina Jolie’s answer is legal action
Jolie’s attorney responded to the recent verdicts by downplaying their importance to the entire case. “These decisions have no bearing on the circumstances of this case, and certainly have no bearing on the case of Ms. Jolie,” her lawyer told the publication on June 25. “For now, Ms. Jolie is just hoping to win the case next year so her family can focus on healing and moving forward.“
Competitive issues in sales
A source close to Jolie gave her take on the commercial. “They didn’t sell the company for any other reason than they expected it to be the best global distribution partner that could help grow the business for the benefit of their children, who stood to inherit Brad’s share,” he said. The same source said that the tension in the business relationship is due to Pitt’s influence. “The truth is that Pitt’s selfishness and desire for control got in the way. Brad refused to work with the company because Angie chose them, not him,” the source said.
Brad Pitt’s thoughts on the decision
Another source close to Pitt expressed the court’s decision differently, describing it as a step forward in understanding what happened. “The court victory is another step towards transparency in what happened,” an insider told the outlet. The source said that the businessman “was a friend Jolie chose, knowing that he was a friend Brad did not want to be involved in the business.”According to the article, Jolie initially agreed that Pitt would have the “first right of refusal” before selling his price, but continued the project without his consent. “The latest rulings mean that members of the company, and possibly the investor, must explain exactly how the deal went,” the source said.
The original argument is to dissolve the marriage
The battle against Château Miraval began in February 2022, when Pitt filed a complaint that Jolie sold his share even though they had previously agreed to approve any deal. Jolie responded with a lawsuit in September 2022, saying that the actor “struggled with her” since they divorced in 2016 after two years of marriage. The couple, who share six children, agreed to divorce in December 2024, although the domestic dispute continues separately.
