Prime Minister praises director ‘Dhurandhar’ Aditya Dhar
Speaking on Facebook Live on Thursday, Himanta Biswa Sarma praised Dhar’s filmmaking skills while explaining why he was chosen for the project. About the filmmaker’s latest blockbuster, he said, “Dhurandhar’s film was a big hit. Aditya Dhar was the director and is one of the most popular names among his contemporaries,” as quoted by PTI.Sarma further added that the government wants to show the amazing life of Lachit Borphukan through a big film adaptation. “I think that if our government can make a film on Lachit Borphukan, we can share his magic all over the world. And, it will be a special success for us,” he said.The Prime Minister also shared that initial discussions with Dhar have been encouraging. It is hoped that the director will visit Assam in August to discuss the details of the film’s scope and production process.At the same time, Sarma also clarified that the project will go forward regardless of Dhar’s leadership. “If Aditya Dhar cannot direct the film, we will go to other directors. The aim is to ensure that a major biopic on Lachit Borphukan is made,” he said.The video is part of the Assam government’s initiative to showcase the state’s history through video. In its Budget 2026-27 presented on July 10, the government announced plans to support films based on the life of Lachit Borphukan and activist Kushal Konwar.
Legacy of Lachit Borphukan
Lachit Borphukan is revered as one of the greatest military leaders of Assam. He rose to prominence after leading an Ahom army to defeat the Mughal Empire in the historic Battle of Saraighat in 1671, effectively halting Mughal expansion in the region. Despite battling serious illness during the campaign, her leadership and courage have made her an enduring symbol of patriotism, and her memory is honored every year through the Lachit Divas.So far, Aditya Dhar has not officially announced his next project after the blockbuster success of ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’.
