After a disappointing T20I campaign, the focus has now shifted to the 50-over format, with the return of several senior players expected to strengthen the visitors.
The biggest boost for India is the return of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah, three of the team’s most experienced players in ODIs.
Their return gives captain Shubman Gill an almost full-strength squad as India begin making combinations for the 2027 World Cup in South Africa.
Both Rohit and Gill are expected to open the innings again. The pair average 60.9 together in ODIs and will look to give India a strong start.
Gill led the series in outstanding form. He has scored 373 runs in five ODI innings this year at an average of 93.3 and a strike rate of 117, including a century and three fifties.
Virat Kohli is also back with big milestones to reach.
The first ODI at Edgbaston will mark his 300th ODI innings, while another good series will see him cross 15,000 ODI runs.
The former India captain has also been in incredible form in the format, averaging 123 in his last seven ODI innings since the start of 2025.
KL Rahul, who scored 139 runs against Afghanistan in the previous ODI series in India, is expected to keep wickets while batting in the middle order. Shreyas Iyer is set to return to his chosen no. 4 positions.
