Linda Noskova won her first Grand Slam title after defeating fellow Czech Karolina Muchova 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 in Wimbledon final of the women’s single last Saturday. The 21-year-old looked in complete control before a dramatic collapse in the second set, but recovered strongly in the decision to lift the trophy. After sealing the victory with her sixth match point, Noskova fell to the grass in celebration.Noskova dominated the opening set and the victory was already there after they took a 5-2 lead in the second. However, she squandered five match points as Muchova fought back to win five straight games and force a deciding set. During a tense spell, Noskova tried to block the crowd by putting her fingers in her ears and then covering her head with a towel after another dropped serve.The youngster came back well in the final set to claim his first Wimbledon title. This is also his second grass-court title this season, having won the Berlin Open a few weeks ago.Noskova became the third Czech woman in four years to win Wimbledon, following Marketa Vondrousova in 2023 and Barbora Krejcikova in 2024. Czech legends Petra Kvitova and Martina Navratilova were both present on Center Court, with Navratilova watching from the Royal Box before the Princess of Wales presented the trophy.The win lifts Noskova to a career-high world no. 7 when the new rankings were released. At 21, she is also the youngest Wimbledon women’s champion since Kvitova won the title at the same age in 2011. Her win follows 19-year-old Mirra Andreeva’s French Open success, marking the first time since 2003 that players aged 21 or younger have won Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same year.
