Legendary singer S Janaki, passed away on Saturday at the age of 88. A heartfelt celebration from the Indian film industry has been heard, after the news of his demise came. Celebrated for a career spanning more than 20 languages and over 48,000 songs, Janaki’s incredible legacy touched generations of audiences through his work in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi and several other languages.Among the first to pay tribute was Rajinikanthwho shared a message in Tamil on X (formerly Twitter): “May her soul, who touched generations with her honeyed voice, rest in peace (folded hands emoji) #JanakiAmma.”A singer Chinmayi Sripaada he also honored Janaki with great memories, remembering the first time he had seen her play. “He was divine. I once had the chance to sing with him in a show in Australia maybe 20-23 years ago. He sang live on stage where he sounded like a child, like a woman AND a man. I was in the back and I was wondering who the male singer was until I learned that he was singing everything.” He also wrote, “He’s the singer I’m looking up to. He might be the Singara Velane Deva in Muruga up there.”Janaki shared a long song with Rajinikanth, lending her voice to several memorable songs from ‘Mannan’, ‘Thalapathi’ and ‘Anbulla Rajinikanth’, including Adikuthu Kuliru, Sundari Kannal Oru Seithi and Then Poove Poove Vaa.Kamal Haasanwho also collaborated with Janaki on many famous songs, wrote a poem which translates as: “This song will be heard forever. Mom, where can I find that love again? Many people carry grief that they cannot put down. My deepest condolences to all of them.” Janaki’s memorable renditions in her films include ‘Unnai Naan’ and ‘Kanmani Anbodu Kadhalan’ from ‘Gunaa’, ‘Sendhoora Poove’ from ’16 Vayathinile’ and ‘Ponmeni Uruguthey’ from ‘Moondram Pirai’.To present his grievances, Joseph Vijay “The passing away of Mrs. S.
