What Lupita Nyong’o did in the double act
Nyong’o was surprised when he was chosen to do these jobs. “I was surprised when Chris told me that he wanted me to play two famous people. My goal was to try to make a difference that was inside. And I think that is another thing about working with Chris. He is really interested in the interior. This, hopefully, comes through this film,” he explained.
Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra explore war and anger
Nyong’o spoke about the themes of the film and the story of war and how it affects everyone involved. “I think that this film is very much about the price of war for everyone. Those who go to war, those who remain, or those who started the war. For these two women, this time they will experience something very different. Their anger is because of their unique experience,” he said. The two sisters represent different views on the outcome of the Trojan War and its aftermath. Although their anger stems from different experiences, both women change their thoughts in response to the pain they have endured, creating complex images of fictional characters.
The importance of Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra as mythological roles
The film brings to life a myth that has been taught in schools for centuries. This story, which was first presented as an oral poem, has become known to many modern people through the written works written by Homer, although scholars doubt whether Homer really existed as a historical figure.
Christopher Nolan’s approach to the classic story
Nolan’s interpretation of ‘The Odyssey’ is not only about the events leading up to the Battle of Troy which is explored in Homer’s ‘The Iliad’ along with the legend of Achilles. Instead the film shows Helen at a different time in her life that differs from the audience’s expectations created by traditional interpretations of the fairy tale.Throughout history, Helen of Troy has been portrayed as a figure against whom men fought and competed. However Nyong’o’s dual portrayal of Helen and Clytemnestra emphasizes their anger and rage which transforms them into compelling figures with responsibility and emotional depth. This reimagining reflects Nolan’s reliance on actors to bring a unique interpretation to the classic story being told.
