Kia India has dropped a new teaser on its social media channels, hinting at the arrival of two new electrified models for the Indian market. The short video flashes the words “HEV” (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) and “BEV” (Battery Electric Vehicle), along with the caption, “The future is knocking. An indication. More than a possibility.” Although the company did not reveal the identities of the upcoming models, the teaser suggests that a hybrid and a fully electric car are in the pipeline.Based on recent spy shots and Kia’s product plans, the battery electric vehicle (BEV) is widely expected to be the upcoming Syros EV. The electric SUV has been spotted testing on Indian roads several times, indicating that its launch could be imminent. The Syros EV is expected to retain the overall design of its petrol-powered counterpart. However, it will likely feature EV-specific styling elements such as redesigned front and rear bumpers, aerodynamic alloy wheels and exclusive exterior color options.Inside, the electric SUV is expected to borrow most of its equipment from the standard Syros. Kia is also expected to introduce EV-specific graphics and software, although technical details of the electric powertrain have yet to be revealed.The reference to “HEV” in the teaser is believed to point to the Kia Sorento Hybrid, another model that was recently spotted testing in India. When launched, the Sorento will be Kia India’s flagship ICE-based SUV, sitting above the Seltos in the company’s lineup.It is expected to compete with models like Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron, Jeep Meridian and even Toyota Fortuner in terms of price.The Sorento will likely be offered in six-seat and seven-seat layouts. Expected features include a panoramic sunroof, Bose premium sound system, ventilated seats, multi-zone climate control and a comprehensive Level 2 ADAS package.As for the powertrain, the Sorento will likely come with a self-charging hybrid setup. Kia may also explore a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version for the Indian market.
