MUMBAI: The use of AI in the content creation process of a study material for the Masters in Psychology program offered by Bombay UniversityThe Center for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) has drawn criticism and ridicule from students on social media. The university, however, has stated that the extent of such use is less than 10% and that it is also “explicitly mentioned in study material by content developers”. However, it has created a committee to verify and scrutinize the content.A student shared the Semester IV Psychology Master’s Study Material for Social Issues (Skills and Intervention), with a caption claiming that “MU is now using ChatGPT to generate content for CDOE psychology students” indicating why students are unemployed. The study material mentioned that “the content was developed under the academic supervision of H Naik using AI-based technologies.”MU, in a statement, however, said: “It has been clarified that the use of these AI tools was limited to purposes such as grammar correction, language refinement, improving the consistency and readability of content and providing editorial assistance. The scope of such use is said to be less than 10%, in line with current proposals for research and acceptable UGC guidelines, including the proposals of the Current UGC”. the MU statement clarified. He also clarified that the material developed for this program is in the form of a self-study guide and is not considered a book. However, in order to carry out a thorough verification and an objective examination of all aspects of the matter, the CDOE has constituted a committee. The commission is currently conducting the necessary investigation and further action is being taken accordingly.
