Ahead of UPTET 2026, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed UPESSC to conduct a Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for serving teachers, saying they should be given adequate opportunities to prove their eligibility. The Uttar Pradesh government has proposed a Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for in-service teachers, with the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directing the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) to create more opportunities for in-service educators to meet the mandatory eligibility requirement.The direction was issued during a high-level review meeting on Tuesday to assess preparations for the Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET) 2026. The exam will be held on July 2, 3 and 4. The admit cards have already been released.

Independent TET for in-service teachers

During the meeting, the Chief Minister said that in-service teachers should not miss out on opportunities due to limited opportunities to take the teacher eligibility test.He directed the Commission to conduct a separate TET for in-service teachers so that they get adequate opportunities to establish their eligibility. According to the Chief Minister, teachers should not face hardship just because they have less chances to appear in the exam.

Almost 20 thousand candidates to take UPTET

The state government expects 19,94,661 candidates to appear in UPTET 2026. Out of the total, 17,67,180 candidates are from Uttar Pradesh, while 2,27,481 candidates are from other states.The highest number of candidates have been registered from Varanasi, Prayagraj, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Kanpur Nagar, Meerut, Mau, Moradabad, Agra and Jaunpur.

CM emphasizes transparency and candidate convenience

Reviewing the arrangements, Adityanath instructed the officials to ensure that the examination is conducted in a fair, transparent and credible manner.He said that no candidate should face inconvenience due to transport, accommodation, security or lack of basic facilities. Officials have been directed to make suitable arrangements at railway stations, bus stands and other important transit points, especially for candidates traveling from other districts and states.

Centers asked to provide basic facilities

The Chief Minister directed all examination centers to ensure availability of drinking water, clean toilets, shaded waiting areas, uninterrupted power supply, fire safety measures and emergency medical services.The district administrations have also been asked to keep health and disaster management teams on alert in view of the prevailing weather conditions.

The district magistrates said to do the test

Adityanath directed the district magistrates to conduct a full rehearsal of the exam arrangements a day before the test. He also directed that only officers with clean service records should be allotted examination duties.The Chief Minister also asked the officials to keep a close watch on rumors and misinformation related to the examination on social media to avoid confusion among the candidates.
