The Bihar Education Department has revised the school timings for middle and high schools across the state due to the ongoing heat wave. The new calendar came into effect on June 22 and will remain in place until June 30, 2026.According to the Directorate of Secondary Education, schools will now operate from 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The decision was made to protect students from extreme summer temperatures while ensuring that academic activities continue without interruption.Under the revised timetable, schools will open at 6.30am, followed by morning prayer and assembly until 7am. The classes will then be held in periods of 40 minutes each. From 9 to 9.40 a.m. there will be a break and a break for food in the primary schools. The final school period will end at 12:20 p.m., after which the school authorities will spend 10 minutes reviewing the lessons taught, planning for the next day and reviewing the students’ homework.The department has also authorized District Magistrates (DMs) to take additional measures based on local weather conditions. If necessary, DMs may modify school operations or take other measures to ensure the safety of students in their districts.
