Telangana school today: Schools likely to remain closed as ABVP protests fee hike, reforms
Schools in parts of Telangana are likely to face disruption today after the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) called for a statewide school bandh, raising concerns over private school fee structures, government school infrastructure and staff shortages. The student organization announced the closure as part of a protest seeking reforms in both private and public school education. The bandh call has prompted several private and corporate schools, especially in Hyderabad, to declare holidays in anticipation of the protests. ABVP has appealed to students, parents and school management to support the action, stating that pending issues affecting school education require immediate attention from the state government. The regulation of rates at the center of the protestA key demand raised by ABVP is the introduction of a strict law to regulate fees charged by private and corporate schools. The organization has alleged that several institutions are increasing the fees without proper supervision, which places a financial burden on parents.ABVP has also opposed practices such as compulsory purchases linked to school uniforms and other school-related requirements. The organization said there is a need for greater transparency in admissions, academics and fee structures, and called for measures to prevent arbitrary fee hikes. The student body has sought comprehensive reforms covering nearly 23,000 private schools in Telangana. It has demanded the creation of a dedicated authority to monitor fee practices, inspect institutions and oversee annual fee reviews.Demands linked to public schoolsApart from fee regulation, ABVP has raised concerns about government schools. The organization has opposed the state’s proposed school rationalization policy, claiming it could affect thousands of government schools. The students have also highlighted the delays in the distribution of school uniforms by the Administration, noting that many students have not received them despite the start of the academic year.ABVP further demanded immediate recruitment to fill vacant teaching and non-teaching posts in government schools. He also sought appointments to key administrative posts, including Mandal Education Officers and District Education Officers.Infrastructure and policy issues have been highlightedThe organization has urged the government to improve the infrastructure of educational institutions, including construction of permanent buildings for Gurukul residential schools. It has also sought stricter monitoring of the mid-day meal program to improve food quality and prevent incidents of food poisoning.Among their demands are implementation of fee regulation measures, implementation of 25 percent reservation for economically weaker section students in private schools and implementation of NEP-2020 provisions related to school education.Responses to the bandh announcement on social media reflected the concerns of some parents, who questioned whether the shutdown would benefit students while disrupting classes at the start of the academic year.
